Holy Eucharist: Source and Summit"Then he took the bread, blessed it, and gave it to them saying, 'This is my body, which will be given for you; do this in memory of me." (Luke 22)
The celebration of the Eucharist is the summit toward which the activity of the Church is directed; at the same time it is the source from which all the Church's power flows.
The Eucharist is the memorial of Christ's Passover, that is, the work of salvation accomplished by the life, death, and resurrection of Christ. This work is made present by the liturgical action of the mass. It is Christ himself, the eternal high priest of the New Covenant, who, acting through the ministry of the priest, offers the Eucharistic sacrifice. And it is the same Christ, present under the species of bread and wine, who is the offering of the Eucharistic sacrifice and shares himself in the Eucharistic banquet. In keeping with the Third Commandment, Catholics have a moral responsibility to actively participate in the Holy Mass every Sunday. For children in second grade, First Communion is usually celebrated on the first Sunday of May. For children not in MQP School or MQP Parish School of Religion, please call the rectory.
