A New Week

Dear Mary Queen of Peace Parish Family,

Happy Mardi Gras! These days of fun and frivolity are a welcome distraction from the short days and cold nights of winter. Parades, masks, beads, bright colors, and food and drink can help us to chase away the winter blues, so have a little fun these days! Wear bright colors and some beads. Go see a parade or a play. Enjoy a great meal; a thick, juicy steak; some  chocolate; a cookie or two; an extra dessert; or a glass of wine... whatever you like!

Of course it only makes sense to celebrate Mardi Gras with an abundance of food and drink and fun if we are going to be equally serious about the discipline of Lent. The only reason that Mardi Gras (Fat Tuesday)exists is that it is the day (or the season) before Ash Wednesday. This year, Lent begins early; Ash Wednesday is this Wednesday, February 10.

May the Lord bless you, and our patron, Mary Queen of Peace, pray for you!

“I AM M.Q.P. !” Prayer
Dear Lord,
Mary Queen of Peace Parish is composed of people like me.
I help make M.Q.P. what it is, and what it can be.
It will be friendly, if I am.
It will be holy, if I am.
It will be prayerful, if I pray.
It will do great work, if I work.
Its pews will be filled, if I come and help fill them.
It will reach out to others to worship, if I invite and bring them.
It will do generous ministry, if I am a generous giver.
It will be a parish of loyalty and love,
if I am loyal to it and love all its members.
It will be a parish of compassion, charity, and mercy,
if I am filled with these virtues.
It will be a parish “Closer to God and Closer to One Another”,
if I am.
Therefore, with the help of God, I now dedicate myself to the task
of being all the things I want my parish to be!
For “I AM M.Q.P. !”
Amen!

Our Mission...

We, the people of Mary Queen of Peace Church, are called by God to live in a community as disciples. Through the sacraments, God nourishes and empowers us to follow the example of our namesake, Mary Queen of Peace. With the help of God's love and grace, our mission is to build up the kingdom of God on earth, bringing our community closer to the Lord and closer to one another as we worship together, educate and serve.
